Week 41: Governments call for applying blockchain, NFT

This week, it was worth noting that representatives from national parliaments emphasized applications of blockchain, NFT, Metaverse in solving life issues. In addition, we continuously see many partnership to support the development of Web3, dApps, ect.

MEPs call for using blockchain to fight tax evasion and an end to crypto asset non-taxation

Last Tuesday, the resolution was adopted in plenary with 566 votes in favor, 7 votes against and 47 abstentions. It sets out a framework aiming at both goals of using blockchain in taxation and uniformly taxing crypto assets. The resolution calls for a clear and broadly accepted definition of crypto assets & a coherent definition of a taxable event. It claims blockchain’s unique features could offer a new way to automate tax collection, limit corruption and better identify ownership allowing for better taxing mobile taxpayers.

Japan’s Prime Minister announces NFT, Metaverse expansion

In his speech to Japan’s parliament, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced plans to expand the use of Web3 services to bring about digital transformation. To do so, the country will scale up investments in NFTs and the Metaverse.  It is worth noting that in September, the Japanese government became one of the first to issue NFTs as a form of supplementary reward to recognize and acknowledge the efforts put in by local authorities. He further hinted at digitizing national identity cards.

Polygon and OCEEF bring deep sea exploration to Web3

On October 6th, Polygon announced a partnership with the Ocean Conservation Exploration and Education Foundation (OCEEF) to promote ocean literacy. Through new and engaging ways, they hope that the ocean and its preservation remain the topics of discussion for generations. Participants can explore the RV Odyssey — one of the most advanced ocean research vessels around the globe — via the Metaverse. They can decide the vessel’s future itinerary, research and even engage in the missions on board through Web3 tools.

NEAR teams with Google Cloud to accelerate Web3 startups

Google Cloud will provide technical support for NEAR grant recipients. The partnership will give Web3 developers the most secure, reliable, and sustainable cloud infrastructure. Besides, Google Cloud also emphasized that they would continue to support new products and services on blockchain-based platforms.

Asus launches NFT platform to plug into Web 3.0

Taiwanese laptop maker Asus has launched Art Black hole on Tuesday, a platform for Ethereum-minted NFTs under Asus Metaverse Inc. This marked its first attempt to venture into the burgeoning Web 3.0 industry. Users who purchase an NFT will become ASUS Metaverse VIPs and receive priority access to future ASUS Metaverse.
